About oSTEM
Out in Science, Technology, Engineering & Mathematics (oSTEM) is a national student society, dedicated to increasing the participation of people who identify with lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, or ally (LGBTQA) communities in disciplines related to science, technology, engineering, or mathematics (STEM).
Our Mission
Our mission is to educate, empower, and engage a diverse community that serves to identify, address, and advocate for the needs of LGBTQA students in the STEM fields.
Our Chapter
Nationally, with chapters in various universities across the country, oSTEM is dedicated to addressing the needs of LGBTQA students in STEM fields. We envision a world where all members of the STEM community can pursue their work in a safe and supportive environment that celebrates their contributions and differences.
In part, we accomplish all of this by facilitating mentoring relationships, networking opportunities, strategic collaborations, and professional/leadership development. We educate students about aspects of the professional world as well as empower and engage students in activities that further prepare them for career challenges.
UF’s chapter proudly started in Spring Semester 2013 and aside from following the national organization’s mission on trans and gender inclusivity we focus on racial/ethnic diversity and tolerance.
